Sutter VNA & Hospice Nearly a century of experience

Sutter VNA & Hospice is one of the largest, not-for-profit home care and hospice agencies in Northern California. Our programs and services respond to the physical, mental, social, and emotional needs of patients and their families, enabling patients to be care for with dignity and comfort in their own homes.

Sutter VNA & Hospice was created in October, 2000 through the merger and reorganization of some of the most well-established home care and hospice agencies in Northern California: VNA & Hospice of Northern California, Sutter Hospice/Sacramento, Sutter Visiting Nurse Association/Sacramento, Sutter Hospice/Roseville, and Sutter Visiting Nurse Association/Roseville. The San Francisco Bay Area roots of the agency go back to 1906 when nurses from the Berkeley Free CLinic volunteered to care for children injured and orphaned in the S.F. earthquake and fire. Our Sacramento roots are deep as well, dating back nearly 65 years.

Today, Sutter VNA & Hospice makes more than 17,000 home care visits each month and cares for an average of 300 hospice patients each day in Alameda, Contra, Costa, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, San Mateo, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo Counties. Today, Sutter VNA & Hospice corporate headquarters are in Emeryville. Clinical staff in local offices in Emeryville, San Leandro, San Mateo, Santa Rosa, Concord, Sacramento and Roseville provide home care, hospice programs, rehabilitation therapy, medical social work services, chaplains, and more. Sutter VNA & Hospice companies also provide home medical equipment and home infusion therapy. The agency is an affiliate of Sutter Health, the eighth largest not-for-profit health care network in the U.S.

Sutter VNA & Hospice reaches all segments of the community with innovative practices that transform health care into a "hospital without walls." We care for people with cancer, AIDS, diabetes, heart and lung diseases, fractures, and strokes, as well as the frail elderly, the chronically ill and disables, pregnant woman, infants, and young adults. Where there is a need for health or end of life care at home, Sutter VNA & Hospice is committed to providing skilled and compassionate care, regardless of the patient's ability to pay.
