Cathie Dornell

Bio:
Ms. Dornell is a native Californian living on the San Francisco Peninsula with her husband and two children and one very large golden retriever (who slept under the table while she painted this mask). Currently, she attends San Francisco State University, where she majors in Art Education. She believes that we need to inspire our children through the introduction to the visual and performing arts in our schools. She hopes to continue with her own artwork while teaching art in years to come.

Reflection:
As I stared at this blank mask many ideas floated into my head. While contemplating where I wanted to take this piece, I read a quote form Mother Teresa. "Within your heart, keep one still, secret spot where dreams may go."

This struck me and I knew I needed to use the quote on my mask. Her words encompass everything that we must reach for in life. Mother Teresa was a spiritual, caregiver to the body and soul of many; I feel that the Hospice Mask Project and Sutter VNA & Hospice mirror her spirit. The design comes into play from finding a secret place. In all of us there exists a magical, spiritual place in our hearts where we can dream.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful project that benefits so many people.
