Based in his San Francisco studio, Mr.Downing is a ceramics artist who teaches at three Bay Area colleges and universities. He makes figures of dogs, horses, people, boats, guitars and abstract forms. Incorporating bright colors, his playful and whimsical work often conveys stories about human's and animal's relationships to each other and to Nature.

My mask design is the face of a dog painted with blue and white glazes of a human face mask. The dog is personified as a human wearing a jacket and tie. He is dressed for a fancy party, such as a fund-raiser for a non-profit community-based organization
