1999 Collection - Diane Rossi Pearl

Fire and Water

A native of the San Mateo county, Ms. Pearl is a graphic designer and the owner of a printing company, as well as being a wildlife artist. From the time she was very young, she was always involved in some form of art and knew that she would someday be an artist. Being a single parent delayed her dream of being an artist, but she did art projects with her children, exposing them to art and artistic expression early in their own lives. Today, in her artistic endeavors, she works mostly with colored pencil and paint. She also enjoys illustrating children's books and other learning materials.

Thoughts:

I believe that my mask design, entitled "Fire and Water," represents something to which everyone can relate. Fire and water symbolize emotions common to us all, such as "she had fire in her eyes" or "he was drowning in a sea of emotion." Sometimes our emotions show on our faces, as with my mask.Everyone in my family, including my youngest grandson, Sawyer, who sat on my lap as I painted, has been very interested in the Hospice Mask Project. I am excited and proud to take part in this valuable project. When my father was sick and dying with my mother caring for him at home, the people from Hospice were such help to her. We all benefited from the wonderful support that Hospice provided.
