1999 Collection - Anastasia Cole

At the age of 12, Ms. Cole's art career began when she won first prize for a mobile which then was displayed in the Detroit Art Institute for months. As an adult, she has worked as a fashion illustrator, muralist, decorator, and art teacher. Her work has been displayed in many exhibits and won numerous awards. Through her interest in cultures and world religions, she has begun experimenting with the mandala symbol which, in some cultures, represents the universe -- a circle enclosing a square or a circle divided into sections.

"Thoughts..."

I wanted my mask design to express the instinctual side of our nature. When we close our eyes and relax, we become a part of the universe. We can travel anywhere from within to outer worlds. Some claim to heal themselves in this meditative state; some claim to fly. We are more than just our outward nature. Conforming to our society, we work in buildings, raise children, socialize, and keep so busy with our purposes. Close your eyes, relax and really see it all.
