A resident of Portola Valley, California, Adele Seltzer has been exhibiting work locally and nationally since receiving her MFA degree twenty years ago. She also teaches young adults the painting and monotype process at an art institution. Through her art, she emphasizes her concerns with the portrayal of the human spirit. "Despite the apparent transience of our physical life, I sense our spiritual continuity, " Ms. Seltzer notes. "A symbolic language related to nature has emerged in my work."
Thoughts:
Since visiting the prehistoric caves of southern France and northern Spain, I have been artistically influenced by the wonders of that area. The prehistoric artwork of the caves reinforced my use of animal and geological imagery to demonstrate our spiritual continuity with Nature. The animals of the caves emphasize the connection between animals and man. This mask, entitled "Dreams - Caves in the French Pyrenees," alludes to these concepts.
